Plant Finder

Tell us your light and space. We’ll show plants that will actually thrive there — with the minimum pot size and days to harvest.

How to read your light

Sunlight is the single biggest factor in what you can grow. For one sunny day, note when direct sun hits your space and when it leaves. Full sun means six or more hours of direct light — enough for tomatoes, peppers and most fruiting crops. Part sun (three to six hours) suits leafy greens, peas, many herbs and root crops. Shade (under three hours) is houseplant and fern territory, plus mint and microgreens.

In cities, buildings bounce light: a pale wall opposite a north-facing balcony can add meaningful brightness, while glass railings can intensify heat. Wind on upper floors dries pots quickly, so tough Mediterranean herbs and sedums often outperform delicate leafy crops on exposed rooftops.

Next step: take your shortlist to the Planting Calendar to see when to sow, then the Garden Planner to see how many fit.
